Buying with advice

Buy a yacht, personally guided

A new Sanlorenzo or a pre-owned motor yacht: we find the right yacht, including those never listed publicly, and guide you from the first question to the handover. Talk to us in English or German.

What you get from us

A choice across the whole market

New builds straight from the shipyard or pre-owned yachts from all over Europe, plus yachts offered only discreetly within the network (off-market).

An honest assessment

We tell you which size, shipyard and specification suit your plans, and where an asking price is too high.

Checks before you buy

We organise the sea trial, an independent survey and the review of all documents for you.

Everything up to the handover

Purchase contract, payment via escrow, flag, registration, insurance and, if you wish, crew and berth.

How buying works

  1. 1

    Define your needs

What is the yacht for, where will she be based, how many guests, what budget? This becomes your search profile.

  2. 2

    Search and shortlist

We screen the market, public and discreet offers alike, and present a short list with our assessment.

  3. 3

    Viewing and sea trial

We arrange the appointments, join you if you wish and clarify open questions with the seller or shipyard.

  4. 4

    Offer and contract

We negotiate price and terms. The purchase contract sets the deposit, makes survey and sea trial conditions, and fixes the handover.

  5. 5

    Survey and checks

An independent surveyor inspects hull, systems and documents. Any defects are reflected in the price or put right.

  6. 6

    Flag, registration and tax

Together with your advisers we settle flag, registration and EU VAT status before you pay.

  7. 7

    Handover and beyond

Final payment, handover with briefing and, if you wish, crew, berth, maintenance and charter of your yacht while you are away.

Shipyards we work with

For new builds we talk directly to the shipyards. Pre-owned yachts we search for regardless of brand.

What a yacht costs per year

As a rough rule of thumb, owners budget running costs of about 10% of the purchase price per year. The real figure depends mostly on size, cruising area and use.

  • Berth in a marina or harbour
  • Hull and liability insurance
  • Crew, usually employed full-time from about 24 metres
  • Maintenance, yard time and antifouling
  • Fuel and consumables
  • Management, flag and registration

Chartering the yacht in the weeks you do not use her can cover part of these costs. We work through the numbers with you before you buy.

Frequently asked questions about buying a yacht

What does the buying advice cost?

The first conversation is free. For the search and support we agree a commission or a fixed fee in advance, transparently and in writing.

New or pre-owned: which makes more sense?

A new build gives you a free choice of specification but often takes one to three years to build. A pre-owned yacht is available at once and loses less value. We show you both routes for your budget.

What does off-market mean?

Some owners sell discreetly, without a public listing. We show these yachts only to serious buyers, on request after a confidentiality agreement.

Do I need a survey?

For pre-owned yachts we always recommend an independent survey before buying. It protects you from expensive surprises and is a sound basis for negotiating the price.

Which flag will my yacht fly?

That depends on residence, use and cruising area. Private use or charter, EU flag or not: we settle this with your tax adviser before the contract is signed.

Can I charter out the yacht when I am not using her?

Yes. On request we market your yacht to charter guests across Europe. The income can cover part of the running costs.
